Nurse clinics
Many of our nurse clinics are free. We run appointments at various times during the day, and also on Saturday morinngs. If you require general healthcare advice, but do not need a veterinary consultation, these free advice clinics are ideal. Nurses perform free monthly health and weight checks on growing puppies and kittens, so you can be sure they are growing as expected, and also obtain an accurate weight for their monthly worming treatment as they grow.
If your pet is overweight, the nurses also run free obesity clinics where they can offer tips on how to best feed your pet. They can work out a safe weight loss regime and perform fornightly weight checks to make sure your pet is losing weight at the best rate (too much weight loss is as bad as not enough).
Older pets benefit from health checks twice a year. Usually your pet will have a full vet check once a year at the time of their vaccination; the nurse clinics offer a perfect opportunity to have second check. At this clinic, the nurse will check blood pressure and discuss ageing issues such as arthritis, diet, and routine screening tests to identlfy diseases at an early stage.
If you pet suffers from arthritis, the nurse can help advise on complementary treatments to help your pet cope with this progressive disease. Nutritional supplements and physiotherapy can make a big difference to your pet's quality of life.
Nurses perform post-op checks and dressing changes. They also clip nails and empty anal glands (there is a reduced fee for these services).
In the spring and autumn, Lucy will perform pre and post hibernation checks.
In the summer, nurses can help advise on the best treatment for your rabbit in order to prevent fly strike, and they will apply any products if you wish.
Late night clinics
Our Milford surgery is open until 7.30 on three nights a week for those people who work late into the evening or have a long commute home. We also offer appointments on Saturday morning.
Cardiology referral service
Sheena Milne has been offering a referral service in cardiology and respiratory medicine for the past 10 years. She has full facilities available at the Greyfriars Small Animal Clinic to investigate all types of heart and lung disease. New treatments available for heart conditions in pets can ensure that your pet can now live a happy life for years after diagnosis.
